CPD Courses

This page contains information relating to the Continued Professional Development (CPD) events that are being delivered by eDriving Solutions for driving instructors. All of our CPD courses are designed to be interactive and thought provoking. They are delivered by some of the leading experts in the field of driver education.

We currently have a one day Coaching For Driving Instructors that we are delivering in conjunction with Driving Instructor Associations around the country. The course is based on HERMES and aims to provide instructors with practical in-car coaching techniques and approaches.

By delivering the course in conjunction with associations means that the cost to the instructors can be kept down. The Association provides the venue and lunch etc and we charge a set fee to deliver the course. The course is designed for mimimun of nine to a maximum of twenty delegates. An overview of the course can be seen below.

If you would like to arrange a course or would like more information please contact Dave Parkin on  01143600030, email dave.parkin@edrivingsolutions.com or through the contact us section of this website.

Feedback from previous events:

What a breath of fresh air Ian breathed into driver training. To be able to hold an audience with what was, to say the least, a challenging subject was a feat in itself but go further and get the audience engaged and wanting more was remarkable. John Lamarra - Driving Instructors Scottish Council

Ian this was the best course I think I have ever been on.  Your delivery was simply brilliant and you have such an ability to create a relaxed learning environment.  I thought about nothing else for the rest of that day and have been practising the techniques on my students. Anita Doughty

I would like to thank you for delivering such an excellent course.  Not only was it extremely interesting and thought provoking but I actually came away with some practical techniques that I have already started using. Money well spent. Gareth Marchant

Fantastic course today Ian, I throughly enjoyed it and learnt a lot about coaching.  Thank you for a such an interesting and empowering day. Denise Shepherd - left on Facebook

I got a great deal from it [Course] I am learning now that coaching does produce good/better results. In fact people do like to solve their own problems and coaching gets them to do just that.....and I think I am talking on behalf of all those who attended. Peter Barnes

I had my check test this morning and went from being a Grade 4 to a Grade 5.
I decided to incorporate the coaching methods from your course in the check test and the examiner was impressed that I had gone that way and asked me if I'd been on a course. I said that I had and mentioned edrivingsolutions.
She was very pleased that I was using my pupil to self Identify, analyse and rectify instead of the traditional way of me doing that process and that they were wanting more instructors to try and steer away from the original core competences.

Course Overview
The course participants are encouraged to identify the limitations of the current learning to drive process and to identify how the GDE matrix can be used to address these limitations.  This course has a strong focus on how to develop the pupils own self-evaluation skills using coaching techniques.

Coaching techniques and models
In this element of the course the participants look at a number of coaching techniques including:
•    Scaling
•    Use and role of questions
•    Active listening
•    Use of scenarios
•    Use of case studies

The HERMES coaching model and the GROW model (Whitmore 2002) are also explored with the participants being encouraged to plan a driving session based on these approaches.  In particular the course places a strong emphasis on how coaching can be used to switch context from a learning context to a ‘real world’ context and, in so doing, better prepare the learner for post-test driving.

Practical coaching exercise
Short video clips are used to set coaching scenarios, based on these clips the participants are asked to coach each other using the techniques which have been identified earlier in the day.

Self-reflective assignment
The Self reflective assignment is completed after the course and is returned to us.  Based on this we will provide the participant with feedback on how to further develop their coaching techniques.  Post-course support is provided by use of a forum where questions can be posted and answered.  Or participants can email us direct.

Course Cost
The cost for us to deliver the course to your association is £500. This fee does not include the provision of t
he venue, lunch, ect.  which must be supplied by the Driving Instructor Association.  The maximum number of instructor at a single event is approximately 18.
